Our Name, DICIN

Prior to opening his business, Rudolph (Rudy) Chieka believed that being listed at the beginning of the telephone directory would prove to be advantageous and drive potential business, thus using one of the first letters from the alphabet in the company name. Rudy solicited the help of the women in his life; his mother, wife, and sister. In need of a business name, Rudy’s mom, Jo, came to his rescue without hesitation. She knew the love her son had for his family and combined the names of two of three daughters who were born at the time. In 1973, Rudy and his wife Janice founded and opened DICIN Electric Company, Incorporated, using the abbreviated combination of Diana and Cindy.

Founders, Rudy and Janice worked persistently hard to develop a thriving business. Janice was the office personnel at the start of the business. In addition to running the day-to-day operations of the office, she was also the delivery person, banker and strategic planner. As business increased, so did the need for additional office staff and office space. In 1982, the DICIN Electric office was relocated out of the family home and into a rental space temporarily. Soon after, they took the next step and built a brand-new office building along with a much-needed industrial warehouse. This location, 156 Cross Road, Waterford, Connecticut remains the home to DICIN Electric Company, Incorporated.

Our Family Tradition

A family business embodies the entire family. Business talks were not only exclusive to the office, but a discussion each night at family dinners, during car rides, family outings and vacations. Throughout high school and college Rudy’s daughters Diana, Cindy, and Lori became well-versed in business affairs. They willingly devoted their time and energy to the family business during holidays, weekends, and summer vacations. The girls were expected to help and they enjoyed their devotion to the family business.

Founder’s two oldest daughters’ Cindy and Diana inspired name of DICIN Electric Company, Inc. by combining both names together.

Founding Principals Remain the Same

As DICIN celebrates our 50th year in business, the founding principles and traditions continue to drive contractual success forward. Rudy and Janice enjoy retirement and have been able to do so with ease. Daughter Cindy has joined the business, full-time, as President/Owner of DICIN along with the support of her husband Chris, as Vice President. Cindy’s professional portfolio includes over twenty years of experience in Marketing & Communications, System Design work, Strategic Planning, Sales, Training, and Human Resources. Most importantly, she embodies the core founding principles and possesses the historical knowledge of DICIN.

Cindy lunged forward into her leadership and ownership role at DICIN. She is proud to be part of the national statistics which state that only ten percent of women make up the construction industry. She is honored to give a voice to an underrepresented group in the industry.  A new face and modern attitude combined with her embodiment of the founding core principles are the perfect ingredients to continue driving DICIN Electric Company, Incorporated forward into the next decade!

While Cindy is running the family business, her sisters remain her biggest supporters. The photo on the left captures Cindy with her sister Diana. Combining parts of the two names together inspired the name of DICIN Electric Company, Inc.
